Sorin Aortic Valve Scholarship

I am pleased to announce that ACSA members can now apply to attend the Sorin Aortic Valve Symposium on the 17th November at their centre in Gloucester. Places are limited so to apply, members need to submit a short (250 word maximum) piece on how your role makes a difference to patient care. You can include pictures and data as well if this helps support your piece.

SCTS Annual Meeting/ ACSA AGM

The ACSA AGM will form part of this years Society Meeting on Monday 21st March 2010. To help members to attend ACSA will support members by refunding their registration fee for the Monday of £40. This will be refunded on the day so you will need to register through the SCTS admission (see below for details).


If you would like to attend the Society University on the Sunday their will be an additional fee of £20 which members will need to find themselves. PLACES FOR THIS ARE LIMITED so I recommend that if you are interested then you will need to register for this as soon as possible.

The SCTS meeting is from Sunday 20th March to Tuesday 22nd March inclusive, concluding with the Annual Dinner on the River Thames Luxury Cruise.


Due to the popularity and success of SCTS University in 2010, Sunday 20th March will be dedicated to the University programme

This years SCTS University is constructed with 6 parallel Educational Streams (09:00-17:00):

• Off-Pump Coronary artery Bypass Surgery: Understanding its role in 2011
• Therapeutic Choices in Aortic Valve Surgery

There will also be 6 Lunch Box Sessions to maximise the interaction and educational experience available (12:15-13:45):
• Endoscopic Vein Harvesting: Unravelling the Myths
• Evaluation of Graft Patency: Valuable Quality Assurance or an Unnecessary Expense
• Postoperative Bleeding: More Than Just a Lost Night’s Sleep
• Minimal Extracorporeal Circulation or Retrograde Autologous Prime: What Role in Contemporary Cardiac Surgical Practice?
• Management of Persistent Postoperative Air Leaks
• Emerging Technologies Workshop: Rapid Fire Presentation of Featuring Areas of Development

You will be able to reserve the Educational Stream and Lunch Box session of your choice (£20) when you register.

Demand outstripped supply last year and session numbers will need to be limited.

Cardiothoracic Surgery Advanced Course

The Society for Cardiothoracic Surgery Advanced Cardiothoracic Course will run on Friday and Saturday 4th & 5th November.

The course is aimed at nurses, SCP’s, physiotherapy, doctors and other allied health professionals and covers lectures, wet lab & interactive workshops.

ACTA - SCTS Annual Meeting and Cardiothoracic Forum 2012

Manchester Central, April 18th - 20th 2012

The 2012 meeting is to be held at Manchester Central as a joint venture with the Association of Cardiothoracic Anaesthetists.  The Society is very excited about the prospect of sharing the annual meeting and forum with the anaesthetists and hope that the broad programme will encourage an ever growing number of delegates.

The SCTS University continues to go from strength to strength and will continue to be a welcome addition to the annual meeting.

Annual Dinner 2012 - Mega Quiz - The Midland Hotel

The annual dinner is being moved this year to the penultimate night of the meeting on Thursday 19th April 2012.  It is hoped that this will make the event more attractive than ever to attend.  It will be held at the Midland hotel, Manchester and entertainment will include a mega quiz for you to test your mettle against the other guests. 

The dinner costs £60 per ticket (including VAT) and includes pre-dinner drinks, a 3-course dinner, wine and entertainment.

Tickets are sold on a first come first served basis and can be purchased at the same time as registering on line.

The venue

Manchester Central Convention Complex (formerly G-Mex/MICC) is an excellent state-of-the-art conference centre in the heart of the city. It provides a full range of meeting and lecture rooms, centred around the Exchange Hall, where the Exhibition will be located, as well as catering and posters.
